Eco-Friendly Packaging

>> Thursday, May 28

Packaging is an important component of the sales process. I don't think there is anyone who is impervious to receiving a thoughtfully wrapped box or package.
I quite enjoy the packaging process but I am also cost and environmentally conscious. I reuse bubble mailers and packaging material whenever I can.

Below are some ideas on eco-friendly, inexpensive packaging:

I gather my materials:

  • Hand made tag, from card stock with a piece of Christmas tinsel stapled to it (tinsel garland from World Market, after Christmas clearance, 90% off)
  • Paper rafia, from the flea market, roll cost 0.25 cents (came with a pink roll also)
  • Paper autumn leaves, from the flea market, 2 bunches cost 0.50 cents (with enough for maybe 100 packages)
  • Page from a vintage book
Here are some books I use:

The books are falling apart but the pages are wonderfully aged and have a thoroughly vintage feel. These are books that have been saved from going to the dumpster.

I wrap the product in the vintage book paper and tie it with the dusty blue paper rafia ribbon.

I embellish the knot with leaf.

All done!

WOW! What a great idea. I love the finished look, too! :)

I always try to re-use boxes and packing material as well. I feel so bad using packing peanuts (I got a TON from ordering something online once... and I still have a crate-full of it. Why can't styrafoam be happy to recycle?)

Once again, thanks for sharing!
