Uprooted from California more than 10 years ago, I have come to love Florida (pronounced
"flaw-da" here in the south). Toting my almost 2 year old son on one arm and his 10 baby bottles
of formula in the other, we made a cross country plane trip to the east coast and really, never
looked back. My husband drove the biggest U-haul truck available with our much culled possessions
and his 4 wheel drive Ford explorer (which will never be used in the flat roads here) over 7 days
or so from California to Florida.
Florida is the home of the Jaguars, the Gators, the alligators, the oranges, the heat and humidity,
the bridges, the spectacular beaches. Here in the Jacksonville area, we have the views of both the
St. John's River and the ocean. A stone's throw away is the oldest city in the USA, St. Augustine,
host to the Fountain of Youth and 2 Outlet Malls.
Here in Florida there is no snow and to the Goodwill went all my ski jackets, parkas and long johns.
Here in Florida, my other son was born, my kids are thriving and growing up strong. Here in Florida
are the naval bases and the many retired sailors from all over the world, reconnecting once again,
regaling each other with colorful stories from the past.
Here in Florida, is my home.
{Now if they will only open a Macy's within 30 miles of me???}

Wonderful! Even though I am originally from the midwest, I have been here over 20 years and love it here in Florida!
